Auto-Tune the News

While this is a creative way to get people to watch the news ... I'm mostly impressed with/scared by the capability of auto-tuning. Certainly the musical ability requirements for today's artists are changing.

Sorry. Sidenote.

The video is a humorous interpretation of a live news interview with a woman who witnessed an attempted convenience store robbery. As expected, robbers came in with guns, but the surprise ending is the store clerk pulled out his own gun and no robbery was committed!

The celebratory ending is my favorite. But be warned, the chorus will get stuck in your head.

Happy New Year!

The folks at Smashing Magazine have put together another great collection of desktop backgrounds for January 2011. I like the comical take on "out with the old, in with the new" in the above background.

So take a gander at their selection and pick your favorite (you're sure to find some inspiration along the way...).

Super Mamika

Meet Super Mamika.

She's a real-life grandma.

And a photoshoot superhero.

A French photographer (Sacha Goldberger) came up with this idea when he heard his 91-year-old Hungarian grandmother (Frederika) was feeling depressed. He told her his idea, she agreed, albeit reluctantly, and the viral web sensation was born. They came up with the poses and shots together, and she ended up enjoying every minute of it!

She now has a Myspace site with over 2,200 friends. Her depression is gone.

Go, Grandma!

Marcel Loves Fridays

Just in case you missed him on Twitter, he came to the blog to say "hi" and make you giggle.

At least that was his effect on me.

Whose Ad is This?

Saw this ad on the sidebar of my email client, and got a little confused.

Whose ad is this? It's Progressive, but State Farm wins the quote war. Guess that's the chance you take with variable marketing? Or do they hope you ignore the highlighted company and remember the overall appearance of the ad and assume the best was Progressive?

Glasses Make the Man

Here is a great ad campaign from Oogmerk opticians. What a change can be made in perspective with the right pair of glasses!

The small print reads: Get the Respect You Deserve.

Literal Interpretations

In the creative realm, we frequently make use of metaphors and abstractions to illustrate our point. But what if people took us literally?

Telling Tales

The following story is taken directly from mackin ink. It's an endearing (and amusing) look at the tales fathers will tell  - and the length at which children will believe!
-----
ricky...
"lillie and grae asked for a little brother for years. the closest we could come is giving them the little hooligan known as esmé.

somewhere along the way, in a genius burst of inspiration, uncle sugar started telling the girlies three tales about his son from a previous relationship.

{note: there is no son. i repeat. uncle sugar does not have a son. only the girlies three. because, as he always says, it takes a real man to make a woman. ugh.}

his fake son's name is ricky. apparently, he is in his forties. which makes him a smidge older than uncle sugar. just one of about one hundred details the girlies three have not yet questioned.

yesterday, esmé and i were at the bookshop when she handed me a book about a little rabbit. what's the name of this one? she asked.

ricky, i answered.

oh! like daddy's son!

i looked around at the other nannies, smiled in a shush it, esmé clenched jaw kind of a smile, and hisspered, daddy. doesn't. have. a. son."

Sorry to tease, but you'll have to go to her blog to read the rest - it would be unfair to her to steal traffic! (her girls are hilarious)

Easter Rabbit

A woman opened her refrigerator and saw a rabbit sitting on one of the shelves. “What are you doing in there?” She asked.

The rabbit replied, “this is a Westinghouse, isn’t it?”

The woman replied simply “Yes”.

“Well,” the rabbit said,

“I’m westing.”

Happy Easter.
