Seeing Through a Different Pair of Eyes

Yes, color blindness again. For some reason, it intrigues me! The idea that certain people are seeing the world through a vastly different set of lenses is something I cannot imagine. Okay, I can imagine the idea, but I can't imagine the life.

For instance, check out the images below. The first shows normal vision, while the second shows a dichromat vision simulation.

They came from a site called Vischeck, which even MORE interestingly (hard to imagine, right?), has a Photoshop plug-in that will filter your image to simulate 3 types of color blindness. Otherwise, right on their site is an area to type in a url (or upload an image) and view it as a color blind simulation.

So check it out - how does your favorite site look through these lenses?

Unique Color Tool

There are countless color-generating tools out there, but this tool from ColorJack recently caught my eye. Though it's not the most customizable, it is the only tool that I've seen that puts you in the shoes of about 10% of the male population - those that are color blind.

It was very interesting to see how the palette changed when it was simulated for the most common red-green deficiencies (deuteranopia and deuteranomaly). My misconception was that this deficiency only affected reds and greens, making them a sickly brown, but it actually affects all the colors (which I should have known...red and green are in all sorts of colors...silly me).

The usability would be even greater if you could input your color scheme and see how it's affected, but alas, this is not so. But play around with it...it will give you an interesting perspective!

Fun Shopping in the Twin Cities

Looking for a new place to shop with the girls? Check out Fun Sisters - a boutique of jewelry, handbags, sandals, and more, all in bright colors and trendy styles. My sister, a lover of all things pink and colorful, got the seatbelt purse shown here.

The name of the boutique has an unique origin: the sisters were convicted of transporting counterfeit merchandise and the customs agent who brought the case against them dubbed them "the fun sisters." They're now selling legal merchandise, but it's still inspired by high end designers and sold at affordable prices. They have limited hours, but multiple locations, and definitely live up to their name!

Pam's left handed doodles

Please note the upper right hand corner where Geoff (my husband) signed acknowledging I used my left hand ... and the small print reads something about me being left handed! Pam

Future team member?

What do you think? Does he have a chance as a graphic designer? Great use of substrate and color! And very innovative -- any one thinking what I'm thinking?
