Colorful New Campaign

Have you seen the new ad campaign for Sherwin Williams paint company? The campaign uses paint chips to create colorful sculptures, making the often difficult task of selecting the perfect color swatch for a room to creating a fun and exciting experience.
The campaign also consists of an animated commercial that shows the paint chips in creative environments! How cool?!

Solving Unspoken Problems
This saucer is great. It's creative, and it's clever. But it has me thinking ... why is it clever? I mean, have I ever sat down with a cup of coffee and thought, "if only I had a terrific saucer under this cup"? No. Which, I'm wondering, may be the reason it's clever.
It solves unspoken problems such as 1) saucers are boring and rarely used, 2) your coffee drips generally just pool around the center ring and dry, 3) sometimes you need some entertainment while relaxing with your cup o' joe. Truly, creative solutions come about by asking the right questions. So what unseen problems are around us that we're not solving?

What do you do with Old Bumper Cars?

It's easy for a gear-head to be discouraged about the state of the world, especially in times of Carpocalypse and Cash for Clunkers. But occasionally a bright light of awesome renews the spirit. Road-legal bumper cars do just that.
Yes, you read that right; these little beasties are street legal. They run on either Kawasaki or Honda motorcycle engines and co-opt vintage bumper car bodies into the most awesome form of mini-car we've seen in too long.
There are seven of these little monsters floating around California , and they're all the creation of one man, Tom Wright , a builder in the outskirts of San Diego who figured the leftovers of the Long Beach Pike amusement park needed a more dignified end than the trash heap. They were originally powered by Harley motors but they rattled like hell and Tom replaces them with Honda or Kawasaki 750's and a couple have been measured as capable of 160 MPH , which is terrifyingly fast in machines with such a short wheelbase.

Photo Realism...in 3D
This artist is, in my opinion, incredible. Called "The Invisible Man," he paints himself to match the background and almost disappears in each photograph.

"I experienced the dark side of society, without social relations, and had a feeling that no one cared about me, I felt myself unnecessary in this world," said Liu Bolin. I think his art expresses that quite well. See more images here.

Coffee Fun
What a simple medium for serendipity! I loved the way the layers built up upon each other. One small cup of coffee = hours of fun at work! I'd love to do this one again, with better paper that absorbs the coffee better! It was interesting to see how dark we could get the coffee to be. I also enjoyed the way you could "see" things in the coffee- like looking at clouds!

Before and After

Take some time to look at the two ads and see if you can tell which is the before and which is the after ad. Then read this article by Thomas L. Collins to find out the why behind what he did.

Modern Danish Design

Here is a cafe concept from industrial designer, Thomas Bentzen. I like how the roof of each space creates intimacy, yet the open sides allow the social aspect of a cafe to remain intact. Intimacy without awkwardness...the beauty of a small cafe.

Dirty Car or Blank Canvas?
Here's a guy that uses dust-covered windshields as the canvas for his art. A little more appetizing than hamburger grease, no?
I find it interesting when people are not only creative with the image they create, but with what they create.
